Summer Travel Trends & Guest Behavior
Summer travel continues to strengthen as guests seek opportunities to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy a change of pace. STR’s 2024 and 2025 data showed record‑high ADR and RevPAR, and early 2026 actuals indicate continued stability supported by strong leisure demand. Travelers are planning earlier, extending stays, and gravitating toward destinations that offer a balance of comfort, convenience, and restorative experiences.
Generational behavior is playing a significant role in this shift. According to the U.S. Travel Association, Millennials and Gen Z accounted for more than half of all U.S. leisure trips in 2025, up from 44% in 2023. These travelers prioritize flexibility, digital ease, and itineraries that feel personal. Many are blending work and leisure, turning long weekends into meaningful multi‑day escapes that allow them to reset without the structure of a traditional vacation.
Ease and efficiency continue to shape the summer travel experience. Mobile check‑in, digital key, and streamlined communication have become baseline expectations rather than differentiators. STR’s 2025 guest sentiment analysis showed that frictionless arrival experiences were among the strongest drivers of satisfaction during peak travel months, especially for younger travelers who value immediacy and clarity.
At the same time, travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that help them feel connected to the places they visit. Booking.com’s 2025 insights found that more than half of travelers choose accommodations based on the experiences available nearby, reflecting a desire for authenticity and local immersion. Sunset dining, neighborhood markets, outdoor concerts, and cultural programming continue to shape how guests define a meaningful summer trip.
As summer demand remains strong into 2026, travelers are gravitating toward destinations and stays that offer a sense of place, a slower rhythm, and opportunities to explore. The combination of ease, personalization, and intentional experiences continues to define what today’s guests value most.
